2) Place: Muckenthaler Cultural Center (1201 W Malvern Ave, Fullerton, CA 92833)

3) Host: Daroo Korean Performing Arts and Culture & City of Fullerton

4) Event contents/scale: Korean folk music concert, Variety of Korean cultural exhibitions,

 The 10th Annual Korean Traditional Music and Arts Festival

5) Number of participants: 12,600 people (4% of Orange County population)

6) Sponsoring Organizations: City of Fullerton, Muckenthaler Cultural Center, National 

 Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, 

 National Gugak Center, The Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organization of Korea, Gugak

 FM Inc., Consulate General of Los Angeles, LA Korean Cultural Center, Turbo Air Group, LA 

 County DAC., CAC.


2. Purpose of project

1) To promote Korean culture by holding the cultural events yearly and ultimately

 establishing “Street of Korean culture”

2) Introducing Korean heritage to non-Korean heritage and have them experience and 

 enjoy Korean culture

3) To hire more artists working together


3. Expectation

1) To promote Korean culture in the U.S. and inspire pride and patriotism 

2) To help Korean Americans have a Korean identity

3) To pass on the Korean culture to the growing generation and to succeed and develop 

 the tradition

4) To Cultivate talented people who have potential of Korean folk music and arts

5) To inform non-Korean heritage about our Korean culture. To inform Korean culture, the 

 beneficiaries of the service are Koreans and other ethnic groups including infants / young 

 people, low-income seniors.

6) To develop as a cultural tourism business

7) To hire more artists and give them more chance to show their talents


4. Details of project

1) All events of “Korea Day 2023” will take place in the Fall of 2023 in Fullerton City.

(1) Korean painting, calligraphy, folk painting exhibition: exhibition of works and giving

 chances to join: 10/26 – 10/29

(2) Korean traditional clothes, Hanbok Festival, to give opportunity to experience: 10/26

 – 10/29

(3) Haemil Performing Group Korean folk music concert: Thursday, 10/26

(4) The 10th Annual Korean Traditional Music and Arts Festival: Saturday, 10/28

(5) Korean food festival: 10/26-10/29

(6) Korean Lighting festival: 10/27-10/28

*All events are broadcasting via online, TV, cable, radio, the Web, or other digitalNetworks

2) Implementation plan

 (1) Looking for companies interested in Korean traditional culture and working together

 (2) Getting Korean cultural organizations involved: Korean Foundation for International 

 Cultural Exchange

 (3) Using Korean cultural organization’s cultural exchange projects

Haemil Performing Group Korean folk music concert: “Korean opera”


1. Overview

1) Simchung-ga is expressing Simchung’s tension and fear before she goes into Indang-Su 

 and her hopes and longing for her father's blindness to be cured with her sacrifice.

2) Cast: Yunwoon Seo (singer), Sung Yee Kim (singer, drum), Xianglan Jin (gayageum)

4. A Brief Introduction to Pansori 

1) Pansori is performed by one singer and one drummer. The drummer maintains the 

rhythm (jangdan) with the use of the drum while the singer performs a long narrative poem 

by singing, narrating, and acting. 

2) In Pansori, songs and narrations alternate constantly. When the singer sings or speaks, 

he or she may open or close the fan or act out the actions of characters of the work. In this 

literature Aniri is the narration mode. Jinyangjo, Jungmori, Jungjungmori, Jajinmori, Hwimori, 

Eonmori, Eotjungmori are singing modes of different rhythms.

Seo Yunwoon Korean Opera Performance


1. General

The serise of Korea Day, Seo Yunwoon will sing Pansori “Simcheong-ga”.


2. Goal

To further promote pansori in the U.S. and to inform not only Korean heritage but also nonKorean

heritage of the superiority of our own culture


3. Overall plan

1) Date: 10/27/2023, 16:00-20:00

 *Performance 16:00-20:00 (intermission for 20 minutes)

2) Place: Muckenthaler Cultural Center

3) Event contents/scale

 (1) Audience will be 200 people ($30 admission)

 (2) Critics and journalists will be invited

 (3) Korean folk music, Korean Opera Pansori

4) Preparation 

 (1) Drummer: Cho, Yong Su (From South Korea)

 (2) Gayageum: Xianglan Jin for 1H at 15:00

 (3) MC: Miok Han

The 10th Annual Korean Traditional Music & Arts Festival

In collaboration with Daroo Korean Performing Arts and Culture, Korean Traditional Music & 

Arts Festival Organizing Committee (KTCFOC) will host its 10th annual Korean Traditional 

Music & Arts Festival to promote the legacy of Korean folk music and arts by providing an 

opportunity for students of the arts to showcase their talents to the wider community in the U.S.


1. Overview

1) Title: The 10th Annual Korean Traditional Music & Arts Festival

2) Date: Saturday, October 21 (Semifinal), Saturday, October 28, 2023 (Final)

 (1) Competition for final: 2pm – 6:00 pm

 (2) Korean music master’s performance & Festival: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm 

 3) Location: Muckenthaler Cultural Center


2. Field

1) Vocal (Pansori, Minyo)

2) Korean Folk Dance

3) Instruments (Kwanak, Hyunak)

4) Samulnori (Pungmool)

5) Korean fusion arts

 *There is no age or group member restrictions.


3. Divisions

 Pre-school and Elementary School, Middle and High School, College and Adult, Senior 

citizen (greater than 62), Non- Korean Heritage.


4. Any individual or group acts featuring Korean folk music and arts, or Korean fusion arts 

are welcome to participate. Big groups can be accommodated, and no minimum age 

restrictions apply.


5. Participant Instructions

1) Application period: 9/12/2023 - 10/16/2023

2) Download application at kukakusa.com and submit to lapansori@gmail.com

3) Individual participant $100, group participant $200, payment through Zelle.

4) All participants are required to possess ID.

5) It’s mandatory to attend Rehearsal (10/28, 12:00 pm)

6) Time considerations for the audition and final performance must be strictly observed: 

 5 minutes limit for the audition


6. Be advised that application materials will not be returned to applicants after submission.
